June 24 - Nate Update

I haven't updated in a while because I'm sure you all don't really want a daily update of our boring yet busy life and I try to wait until I have more information than just "Nate had a good day" or "Nate had a bad day". So, Nate is doing well. There have been a few set backs, but nothing too big. The right side of his nose and cheek started swelling again so he took a visit to the the doctor and they put him on an oral antibiotic, nasal spray antibiotic, and a steroid. Hopefully those will do the trick. That was the side that took the brunt of the impact so it doesn't surprise me that it's acting up. One of the other set backs is his left knee. In the hospital he said it was a bit sore and stiff, but he never really mentioned it again until last week he said it was still sore. So he went to an orthopedic doctor a couple days ago and he thinks there's a tear in his posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) it sits behind the ACL and they usually don't do surgery, just physical therapy. So that was good news. Although, they ordered an MRI to make sure that's what it really is and nothing more. The MRI was done today and on Monday he meets with the doctor again to talk about the results. He also has been having some slight vision problems so he saw a doctor for that and will now be doing "vision therapy" for at least 12 weeks. The doctor seemed confident that he can get Nate's vision back to normal with just therapy. Seems easy enough. Oh and he did say that his vision is fine for driving, so don't get all paranoid if you see him behind the wheel! I have to say I am so sick of doctor offices, though. When you add in the normal family stuff like dental cleanings and baby well check-ups along with all of Nate's fun doctor and dentist visits it seems like that's all we do. But I'd sure rather be doing all that than have Nate still in the hospital or not with us at all... obviously. So I will stop crying a river and buck up! He has been doing a little work here and there trying to ease back into things. He mowed the lawn today and helped coach Tye's T-ball game this evening. He doesn't have to have naps anymore, but still has to just sit for a while after he does a lot. I talked him into going to a family reunion in Idaho tomorrow so hopefully the traveling won't be too hard on him. I'm sure he'll be fine and it will maybe help him know how traveling will affect him since he plans to go back to work in the next couple weeks. I am planning on actually getting out my good camera and I'll post some pictures. I've been lazy and have just been using my phone camera... not the best for documenting very accurately. Oh well! All in all things are going well. We consider ourselves extremely blessed. I can't help but think of the hymn 'Count Your Blessings'... the smallest things can be some of our greatest blessings!
