Today was a good day. Not too surprising since he's been improving so rapidly each day. When I showed up in the morning he was in pain. His night nurse ended up not being very good. Probably just from inexperience, but seriously! She let his meds wear off by over an hour more than once so then he'd wake up and be miserable. So he was happy when the shift change brought him a better nurse. He went for a walk in the morning out to the balcony to get some fresh air and had a nice chat with a friend. My brother-in-law, Ryan, brought his helmet and leathers over for him to see. Seriously! That helmet is my best friend! It did it's job, big time! Dry blood is all over them... so glad I saw him when he was cleaned up a bit in the E.R.
The pharmacy was super slow getting his 1:00 pain med ready so he got behind once again, but was able to get on top of the pain just in time for the kids to show up. This visit went much better. They made him cards and brought balloons. Haley still didn't want to get near him, but she would at least look at him this time. She held up the "I love you" sign with her fingers and blew him a kiss. Tye wasn't as afraid either and gave him hugs. We walked out to the balcony again with the kids. Some nieces and nephew were there too so he was surrounded by little ones and loved it.
AND he finally got some pants to wear! I don't know why I didn't think of asking for some for him. He was getting so irritated with his "skirt" (as he refers to it) that I should have been anxious to solve the problem! They also have taken some chest x-rays to make sure he isn't getting pneumonia. His lungs look good. They put the button in his trach around 1:30 this afternoon. It was a struggle at first, but he really wants to get home so he powered through the hardest part and has had it in the rest of the day. As far as I know he is sleeping with it in too. Good sign! We didn't see the doctor today... not sure why. So maybe tomorrow we will have a few questions answered. He of course has enjoyed all the visitors today and I have been told by him that he's a grown man and to "chill out". I guess since he finally got a pair of pants he thinks he's in charge all of a sudden!! :)
Thanks for the continued love and prayers! They are working miracles!
