June 1 - Nate Update {#2}

After Nate got moved to his next room they put the button or plug in his trach to see how well he can breathe on his own. He did okay, but the tube takes up enough space in his airway that it made breathing really labored. He tried to sleep but couldn't. He tried to eat a snack of yogurt and had to rip the button out to get a breath. He felt like he was suffocating. So I really don't know what it means for his progress. I was told by the respiratory lady he has to go at least 24 hours with the plug to get the trach out. I guess we will see what tomorrow brings. His swelling is going down rapidly. We can see a big difference from morning to night each day. He took a good long look in the mirror today. I asked him how he felt about it. He basically said what happened happened. He can sit around and mope about it or he can move forward. He chooses to move forward, of course. I sure love that guy!

He's had lots of visitors which is good and he loves it, but he also needs to make sure he gets the rest he needs. He keeps getting irritated with me because I tell him he needs to take it easy and not talk so much. Like I said before, he keeps us entertained, but I hope he's not over doing it. He says "strong like bull". I say "stubborn as a mule"!!

Rachel, Tye and Haley are sleeping at their Grandpa and Grandma Bishop's tonight. Kaden is at his cousin's house. I am at my mom and dad's house with the baby. I can't wait until we are all together again at home... there's no place quite like it. I know it's only been a few days, but it feels like a week or more. I won't complain though. I know others have it way worse and I get to go sleep in an actual bed at the end of the day. Speaking of which... it's calling my name!

Nate really wants everyone to know how much he loves and appreciates you. He says he feels your prayers and is so grateful for them. He cries easily, but they are tears of joy and gratitude.
