May 31- Nate Update

Nate is doing incredibly well. The hospital staff is amazed! He was able to get up today and did a few laps around the ICU. It wore him out, though. They moved him to intermediate care just before lunch. His pain wasn't managed very well all day, but this evening we finally got it under control. What a difference! He still has the trach and will for 2-3 more days. They want to make sure the swelling has gone down and his airways are safe enough to trust. His jaw is still wired shut. For how long? Who knows?! He was upgraded to creamy soups, pudding, ice cream, etc.. He even had a Jamba Juice tonight. Wahoo! It all is a miracle! The thought of all the what if's.... I hate to go there. We have our dear Nate and know our Father in Heaven is watching over him.

Nate says, "No more Harleys. Corvette!" Ummmm... we'll see!

The kids came to see Nate for the first time this evening. It was hard on them. I think it made Nate sad to see that he scared some of them. Rachel cried a lot. She wasn't scared, just sad to see her daddy hurt. Kaden cried a little, but was fascinated by all the wires and gadgets. Tye didn't want to get close. He said he wasn't scared, but I'm pretty sure he was. Darn it! Haley was terrified. She wrapped her arms and legs around me and buried her head. Eliza just looked at him, no smiles though. :( We'll try again another day. I know Nate really wanted to see them so I think it was good for all even if it seemed a bit scary.

When Nate's pain is in check he's the life of the party! I had to leave to feed Eliza (the little stink bug won't take a bottle) and when I came back he was entertaining 7 visitors and had them all laughing. I know he likes visitors, but he needs to take it easy, too! I'm afraid he thinks he's Iron Man!
